Almond Tree Counseling is a private home-based counseling service established to respond to the mental health needs of homebound adults and seniors. We have found that there are many people who are not able to make it to an office due to illness or other limitations and would welcome having a counselor meet them in their home. Our Goal at Almond Tree Counseling is to partner with you to address the transitional challenges of life and help improve your overall functioning through exploration, development of positive coping strategies and stress-management techniques. Remember, depression and anxiety are not an inevitable part of aging and can lead to great difficulties if left untreated. However, today, you can take steps to overcome your symptoms with the assistance of an empathic professional counselor. We service many towns in southern and eastern Massachusetts. Spiritual and Religious Needs: Grief and loss issues associated with illness, death and other life transitions cut deeply into the soul and often require reassurance and support beyond psychotherapeutic counseling. We provide comprehensive spiritual and pastoral accompaniment through affiliated, licensed clergy.

My desire is to create safe, supportive space to help you feel comfortable and fully supported in the work that you would like to do. I enjoy assisting with transitions through all kinds of life circumstances - grief and loss, relationship issues, career changes and soul questions or crises, to name a few. I welcome working with you to help you release what is not working in your life and to help you make room for the "new" -- for transformation, deep peace and, most of all, for joy. I am comfortable using traditional clinical methods including supportive psychotherapy, Imago (couples) therapy, EMDR and Brainspotting. I am also trained in energy healing modalities, which I am happy to discuss with you. As a licensed psychologist, a clergy person and an energy worker, I look forward to offering my areas of expertise in a way that will serve you best.

You've found disappointment because your life does not look the way you thought it would. Perhaps you are dealing with a major loss that has you feeling like a bomb went off in your life. Or perhaps you dreamed life would look a certain way and feel left behind, unfulfilled and unsure what you want moving forward. Or perhaps you are struggling to adjust to a life change. Even if your life looks good on the outside, you feel empty and hopeless. You cannot shake a nagging worry or sadness, and your friends and family might not understand how much your life feels like a battle. You feel alone, but you do not need to suffer in silence. You need space to be honest and share the losses you have faced. You need a trained professional who will listen and help you understand how your story has shaped you. You can heal, and there is hope for your future. I can help and offer in person therapy in Charlotte, NC and online therapy to residents of North Carolina and South Carolina. I perform EMDR therapy, a treatment that is one of the most effective ways to help people who have experienced loss and trauma. While I have worked with people of all faith backgrounds, I provide Christian counseling upon request. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Therapist in EMDR, I specialize in working with individuals, couples and their families who experience psychological and emotional trauma and PTSD. I work with diverse populations experiencing trauma and a wide range of trauma-informed mental health diagnoses (e.g., anxiety, depression and other mood disorders, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, chronic pain and eating disorders) as well as those affected by community disasters. I utilize modalities such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems, structural and strategic therapy and the Metaframeworks perspective. Since trauma affects most people at some point in their lives, comes in all shapes and sizes, can be the cause of many other mental health issues, and often threatens our safety and emotional integrity, I feel that it is critical to offer my clients the best quality assessment/treatment. I offer my clients hope and healing and the ability to flourish. Having published and presented on trauma, and as a clinician at St. Vincent's Behavioral Services, Intensive Outpatient in Bridgeport, Fairfield Counseling Services, Collaborative Counseling Group and as a Visiting Professor in the MFT department at Fairfield University, I bring to my practice both a diverse clinical and research expertise.

Feeling scared and constantly on edge after a life-threatening event? Does it seem like worries are taking over your life? Are you feeling burnt out taking care of others? Perhaps you are a therapist feeling out of touch with why you ever wanted to do this. Maybe others see you as successful, but you secretly fear you will fall short of expectations (especially your own). Worry, anxiety, PTSD, burnout, or perfectionism have gotten in the way of living the life you want. You’ve lost touch with the things that bring you a sense of meaning and purpose. It’s not just you. Everyone gets stuck. I am here to help. I work from the assumption that everyone has the capacity for recovery. Memories of a traumatic event do not have to dominate your life. Your worries, fears, and inner critic don’t have to be the boss of you. There is another way to live. I can help you get back to a life that is built around what you care about most. Every session we have together will be focused on YOUR goals and getting you back to what matters. I stay up to date on psychotherapy research and pursue training well above and beyond what’s required. "Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It's a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity." -Pema Chodron. From this place of compassion, I embrace a collaborative approach in therapy to help you address current life challenges, explore lifelong patterns, and/or develop areas for personal growth. I see adolescents and adults. Grief and loss is my speciality. You may have experienced the death of a loved one or suffered a loss related to a significant life event. Therapy can help you make meaning of the loss and process who you are now and how you can move forward in your life. I do not accept any insurance .

I enjoy working with individuals and couples who are curious and hungry for more connection to themselves and others in their lives. When you start therapy, I will talk with you about what brings you to therapy, the life you want to create and what you think holds you back. I will reflect with you on how it feels to be with and collaborate with you on your own thriving. You are likely to display the same intra- and inter-personal patterns with me that enhance or impede your progress in your relationships at work and home. Most of my clients start therapy because of depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties and work challenges. As a therapist focused on helping adults thrive at home and at work, I have been successful in helping people learn to communicate effectively while stressed out. Therapy is a time to learn what you need to stay centered and bring your best self to your work, family and couple. Tell me, where is the pain in your life right now? With directness, humor and warmth, I will help you learn to build stronger relationships that can sustain and nourish you. I will work with you as an individual and with your couple and show you how to stay grounded and connected in these trying times. In group therapy, you will learn about yourself in relationship in peers.

I believe that, given adequate time, space, and resources, all individuals are capable of self-directed change regardless of their presenting problem. I also believe that therapy can often be the missing factor for those who seek but are unable to successfully make positive life changes on our own. As a counselor, I facilitate change by working with and through the client. As client and counselor, we work together, as a team, to best meet the client’s needs by setting, and then pursuing, realistic, attainable treatment goals. As a counselor, I am 100% committed to the client's 'growth'; even during the hard times, even when the client isn't, I will always believe in you and your capacity for change. I work from attachment and person-centered lenses, specializing in trauma and PTSD, identity (i.e. sexual, gender), anxiety, and mood disorders. Seeking help for your mental health is no easy task. It takes both courage and humility, and I commend you for taking the steps you have thus far. As a counselor, it's my honor and responsibility to always 'chaperone' the client through their therapeutic journey with empathy. The road to growth and change isn't easy but THROUGH is often the only way.

When we grow up in dysfunctional families, we often learn skills to deal with difficult situations that were helpful in the past but that no longer serve us, like shutting down or exploding when you're upset, conflict avoidance, having trouble asking for what you want or need, people-pleasing, perfectionism, numbing with phone scrolling or substances each night - the list goes on. My ideal clients are adults who have had challenging life experiences and who are hoping to gain insight into how their pasts are impacting them in the present. I help clients to address harmful behaviors, heal from trauma, and create a beautiful life. I am warm, compassionate, and nonjudgmental in my work with clients. Through a psychodynamic, attachment-based lens, I help clients process and move forward from early experiences of abuse or neglect, instability, or living with parents who had a hard time controlling their emotions or moods. I am trained in EMDR therapy and incorporate this when appropriate I'm not a therapist who will stare at you silently and nod occasionally; I'll be getting in there with you, talking about anything you need to (I've heard it all!) from work & relationships to sex and strange bodily functions. Some of our work will feel serious, but we'll also laugh a lot. I hope to create a safe space where you can put it all on the table.

You can indeed change your feelings and behaviors, even if that change has seemed unachievable in the past. Perhaps you've already tried to address your concerns on your own. Maybe progress was more difficult than you thought or it proved to be short-lived. If you're ready for change, my goal is to help you move forward toward the life you want to live. My name is Shelly Graziano and I am a Licensed Associate Counselor in New Jersey. I am also a wedding officiant, marrying couples in the tri-state area, while offering pre-marital guidance. In my spare time I enjoy paddle boarding and hiking with my two rescue dogs. I graciously accepted a Graduate Assistantship at Montclair State University, where I simultaneously earned my second Master’s Degree in Counseling. I earned my first Master’s Degree in Education with a focus on biological sciences from Rutgers University, while also earning my teaching certificate. I have a thirst for knowledge and am always looking to learn more. I find utilizing a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy, as well as behavioral modification techniques to be a recipe for client success. My modality of choice is a Solution-Focused approach to therapy, while engaging clients in goal-setting. I enjoy working with couples, individuals, and families as they navigate life and its many challenges. I have a deep level of empathy for each and every client I counsel, and I work to normalize feelings that often leave us feeling ostracized.
