Query: Now that Dry January is in full swing, many Americans are practicing Damp February, or consuming fewer alcoholic beverages. However, some people have started taking microbreaks from alcohol (stopping drinking for a week or so every month, not drinking on consecutive nights of the week, only having one or two drinks during an outing, etc.). I’d like to hear from a doctor or addiction counselor about the benefits of taking microbreaks from alcohol.

  1. What are the benefits of taking small breaks from alcohol on our physical and mental health?
  2. What are some tips for taking breaks from alcohol/how can someone start doing it?
  3. Is there any benefit to swapping to drinks that contain less alcohol?

Requirements: Addiction specialist, general practitioner, psychologist, related medical expert
