Query: In recent years, it seems people have been getting more ‘nonchalant.’ There’s this deep rooted fear of being ‘cringe’ in people, that it seems wasn’t there before. It seems to have gotten worse since 2020. Fewer people want to dance in clubs, fewer people are passionate. I don’t believe this is an isolated experience either: I recall when people hated on Greta Thunburg after her ‘how dare you’ speech at the UN, and I believe some of the criticism and ‘memeification’ that came after that was a symptom of people finding her passion to be ‘cringe.’ If you are able to speak on this as a psychologist or have observed this phenomenon for yourself, reach out!
